South Carolina Circuit Court is the general-jurisdiction trial court. Oconee County is part of Judicial Circuit 10. The Circuit Court has two main divisions: Court of Common Pleas for civil matters and Court of General Sessions for criminal matters. Oconee Circuit Court Table

Oconee County does not have numbered district courts like some states. The practical court table is organized by court or division, judge or official, address, and contact. Oconee Circuit Family Court

Family Court is a separate statewide trial court, not a division of Circuit Court. It has exclusive jurisdiction over marriage, divorce, legal separation, custody, visitation, termination of parental rights, adoption, support, alimony, marital property division, name change, and most juvenile matters. Oconee Family Court records may be searched through the Family Court CMS public portal where available, with copies and restricted-file questions routed through the Clerk or Family Court office.

Oconee Circuit Magistrate Courts

Magistrate Court is the county summary court level. Oconee magistrates issue arrest warrants, search warrants, and bench warrants; set bail; conduct preliminary hearings; and hear lower criminal, traffic, eviction, landlord-tenant, claim and delivery, abandoned-property, and civil claims generally up to $7,500. Bond Court is physically tied to the Oconee Detention Center at 300 South Church Street in Walhalla.

Magistrate Court matters can later affect Circuit Court records when a criminal case moves to General Sessions, when an appeal is allowed, or when a warrant, bond, or preliminary hearing creates related entries.

Oconee Circuit Municipal Courts

Municipal Courts handle municipal ordinance violations and qualifying traffic or criminal offenses inside city or town limits. They do not have civil jurisdiction. Oconee municipal courts listed by the Judicial Branch include Salem, Seneca, Walhalla, West Union, and Westminster. Seneca Municipal Court states that it handles all traffic and criminal cases inside Seneca city limits and does not handle civil filings such as evictions, restraining orders, or small claims.

Municipal Court is important for Oconee County Circuit Court searches because a city traffic or ordinance case may not appear the same way as a county magistrate or Circuit Court case.

Oconee Circuit Probate Appeals

Probate Court is county-based and separate from Circuit Court. Oconee Probate Court handles marriage licenses, estates, wills after death, guardianships, conservatorships, trusts, minor settlements under $25,000, certain powers-of-attorney matters, and involuntary commitments. Probate Court matters can connect back to Circuit Court through limited appellate jurisdiction, but ordinary estate and marriage records remain Probate Court records.

The key Oconee County distinction is not Circuit Court versus County Court, because South Carolina does not use a county-court layer for these records.
